UEFA EURO 2020 volunteer opportunity is calling
In summer 2020, the 12 big European cities – Bucharest, Budapest, Copenhagen, Rome, Amsterdam, Glasgow, St. Petersburg, Dublin, Baku, Bilbao, London and Munich will host the matches of the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship from June 12 – July 12, 2019. So why it might be a good decision to apply to become the UEFA EURO 2020 volunteer?
The UEFA EURO 2020 is a mega international sport event in Europe, and as any big international event, it cannot happen without the presence and participation of volunteers. As a previous mega international sport events volunteer, I can confirm that volunteers are the heart and the driving force of every big event, defining its success. I would like to invite you to check and if you are interested – to apply, because for me personally, volunteering at a big sport event has lots of advantages for personal and professional development like ...
Getting new experience
Volunteers usually are offered to choose department and positions (based on their desires, interests and experience) where they want to volunteer: it can be accreditation, ceremonies, transport, media, ticketing, broadcasting, venue management, match operations, medicine, hospitality, spectator services.
And for example, if you study journalism, PR and communications - it’s a good opportunity to become a media volunteer and work in a media center or with a broadcasting team, to experience how media or broadcasting operations are performed during the delivery of a big sport event.
Or if you have no clue about working with spectators but curious how organizers deal with thousands and thousands fans – you can join a spectators service team and see, learn and experience how to lead really big groups of people - crowd management, which is one of the most essential things at any big events, especially at football ones! It’s absolutely new experience which you cannot get in normal daily life but at big sport events.
Mastering your skills
If you already have professional experience, volunteering at a big sport event can be a chance to master your skills. For example, if you are a doctor, you can volunteer with a medical team at the stadiums, or even help to the players' personal doctors. If you are good in marketing, you can join the marketing department and see how the official products created and distributed. If you are fond of cooking, Catering or Food and Beverages Departments welcome volunteers as well, and you can experience how are organized F&B and catering services for spectators and special guests. Volunteering at a sport event can really boost your skills.
Practicing languages
At the UEFA EURO 2020 volunteers are required to speak English and the language of the hosting country. If you speak German, you can apply to volunteer in Munich, or if you study in Italy and speak also Italian - the Rome venue is waiting to have you as a volunteer. Or may be on your Erasmus Mundus exchange in St. Petersburg and can have some conversation in Russian – then don’t hesitate to apply to volunteer in one of the most beautiful cities in Russia.
Networking
While preparation, volunteer training, working on shifts – while you’re on your volunteering journey, you will 100% meet a bunch of new people and have a unique chance to make good networking and build contacts for your profession and career or just create life-long lasting friendship or finally meet you love, who knows :)
Having a good time
Making new friends, getting new experience, visiting matches during your days off and cheering up the playing football team, meeting football fans from different countries and feeling that atmosphere of celebration of sport – all this is priceless, believe me. Volunteers don’t get paid, but they receive more than that – these memories, moments and people which will stay forever. That is why people again and again become volunteers at big international sport events – to feel again this atmosphere and create unforgettable memories.
Contributing to a local community
All sport events are focused on leaving legacy behind. When you volunteer at a big sport event in a big city, you become a part of the community, because you are working with locals in one team, helping to deliver this event successfully and contributing your time, energy and desire to the community to host this event. And if you are from one of these 12 host cities or live or are going to live there during the UEFA EURO 2020, so lucky you! Just imagine how many tourists and football fans will come to visit your city, and how the city infrastructure will be changed and improved for this sport event.
