The final rush!

It seems like yesterday that I had started my EVS project in Westerkappeln. How many fears I carried with myself: what if kids do not like me? What if I do not manage to achieve a good level of German and, consequently, I cannot communicate with them and my colleagues?  I calmed down and I reminded to myself who I am: a fighter, a person who never gives up and loves the adrenaline coming from new adventures!

Now it is May and in July I will end my project, because a new adventure is calling me: a master in Sweden. I am very thrilled abou that and also scaried as it is going to revolution my life. Like every experience made so far. In all these months, I grew up as a human being first. That is the result of working with kids who constantly ask your 100%. In these incoming two months I want to give the 101% for them above all. I had the chance to get to know-in-depth each one of them, I know what they like or dislike, what makes them happy or sad, what makes each of them unique. I try everyday to show them how special they are in the simple things they are doing such as speaking another language which is not German at a such early age like theirs (6-8 old). Some of them blushed like tomatoes when I asked them to translate simple words like "apple" or "book" in Russian or Arabic. Like Krasimir, for example. He can speak Bulgarian and Russian and I was very interested of learning from him. He used to run away, but now he likes the idea of being a teacher to me. I gained his trust letting him understand that for me the fact that he can speak three languages makes him special to my eyes. I am happy to see that Krasimir and the other kids trust me and believe at my words. It means a lot to me, because it means that somehow they will remember the Italian volunteer who spent one year with them.

If there is something that EVS gives me, it is the awareness of my origins, the importance to share my culture with other people like kids, always curious to listen a story. It doesn't matter if there are no dragons or fairies. It is how you tell them, how you make this story special that counts to them.
