Pre-Departure Training
Two days of preparation for EVS in Berlin. Slowly but surely, it's becoming more and more of a reality…
This week I had my pre-departure training in the Abbey Hotel, Malvern. There were 14 EVS volunteers in total, ages ranging from 19 to 30, from all over the UK and heading to all kinds of places. We even had four going to Peru and two off to Costa Rica! The rest of us, however, will be staying in Europe. Sadly, I was the only one going to Germany. I'd been hoping I'd meet someone else going there too, but oh well…
It was an interesting couple of days. Okay, the actual content of the training itself wasn't exactly exciting or amazingly insightful, but it was really interesting to hear about the other volunteers' projects and how they found the projects in the first place. And together as a group, we'd travelled almost everywhere in the world, so there were a lot of little stories (some funny, some shocking) and various anecdotes to be told.
Dinner was at a nearby Italian restaurant and was sandwiched between two visits to the local pub. The night was a lot of fun and we all had a great laugh. It was a brilliant opportunity to hear other people's experiences and to give/receive tons of helpful advice. It all made me very excited about Berlin! Unfortunately, I've got the longest to wait out of everyone who was at the training. But I'm sure, or at least I hope, these next two months will just fly by.
