Italien Entdecken: Days 4 and 5
My kids dealing with learning Italian language and with preparing Tiramisù
My project "Italien entdecken" with my super curious kids continues and in the last two weeks I organized two funny and motivating activities. Let's start with the Day 4 wherein I dressed the suit of an Italian teacher. Several times, my kids asked me how to say something in Italian, so I thought that a day of my project could have been dedicated to teach some words in Italian. My kids were enthusiastic and they basically surrounded me with their hands up, which means in their language: I have a word in my mind and I want you to translate it in Italian. In order to not set this activity like a standard class, we played a game: each of us had to tell me their word- but also a simple sentence- and they had to guess which letters I needed to compose the word/ sentence.
Ex. Amy, one of the kids, asked me how to say "Dog". And I wrote down this: _ _ _ _. At the end, they told me a random letter and, when it was a right guess, I filled the empty spaces with it. For curiosity: Dog in Italian is Cane :)
It was so funny seing them going to their parents or their freinds and stating that now they were able to speak Italian! They made me promise that I would have set this game once again and I am very enthusiastic to have received such a positive feedback!
Day 5 was "Tiramisù day". Tiramisù is a typical Italian dessert made with biscuits called "savoiardI", coffee, a creme made with fresh eggs and mascarpone. The aim was to make together Tiramisù, but I needed to change the recepe as kids cannot drink coffee and I wanted to avoid to used fresh eggs, because they could have cause stomachache. Thanks to my mum's advice, I opetd for a creme made with panna and-instead of coffee- I put milk mixed with chocolate powder. There was a very high demand for joining me in the kitchen!! Kids' eyes were shining because of their unconditionate love for everything related to chocolate and cookies. I showed them how to prepare a good Tiramisù. First: put cookies into this "milk-chocolate" sauce, and put one of them into the cup. Second, take a spoon of panna and put on cooky. They had to create a sort of mini-tower made of cooky-panna-cooky. The result was a very hypercaloricc dessert which made kids happy and with a full stomach. Kids kept repeating me: thank you, Giulia, it was funny doing it together". In that moment, I realized why I kept ding what I was doing: the happiness of my kids, their sweetness and kindness, their willing to share their emotions in the most possible spontaneous way.
Now I need to think about the next activities to do with them, I hope a very good idea will come up to my mind!
