Foraging: the magic of collecting wild plants
Find and give attention to Nature's gifts is a strong way to connect
The art of gathering wild plants is a part of human life intrinsic to its development, forming the basis of its nutrition for almost its entire existence. It represents the most palpable way of communication between our organism and that of Gaia: we are in fact legitimate children supported and raised by the fruits that grow from her sacred lands. The set of life forms that represent the biosphere is all we really "have". Meeting our needs for food with what surrounds us physically, which is there in our vicinity, at hand, is the most independent, exciting, respectful (making sure that enough plants remain to ensure the survival of the population), sustainable and self-empower way to honour our role in the ecosystem. No type of resource, work, suffering, habitat, physical or symbolic cost is required or private by others; no outsourced consumerism; no de-responsabilisation.
Just walk with a basket in hand, a knife, maybe some gloves, knowledge and desire for freedom... reading a book or establishing a relationship with a forager you will be amazed at how many things you can eat out there. Avoiding polluted places, the genuineness, wholesomeness and taste of wild products are incomparable, much superior to the cultivated variety: it is Mother Earth's will to nourish us truly and deeply.
Leaves, buds, stems, roots, berries, flowers, fruits, seeds, mushrooms, algae... The bond with one's own territory will deepen and a new sense of belonging will grow from within.
