All about the city of Rzeszow, Poland
Rzeszow is a city where I have visited both as a student exchange program under the Erasmus + program and live as part of European Volunteer services (With its new name ''European Solidarity Corps'').Rzeszow and Poland will always be in my heart.
It is a quiet, small, organized Polish city where you can have fun. Ideal option for Erasmus. Of course there are some downsides, but not as many of the good ones. Let's find out all about Rzeszów? I can hear you say ''yes!'' :). Let's start!
* BEFORE YOU GO!
The first thing you need to do before you go is to find a place to stay. You can rent a hostel or an apartment. Or you can rent a room in many student dormitories in the city (IKAR, FILON etc.). However, for the dormitory, you have to go and talk in person. The method I use for a hostel or apartment is to use technology. Hostel, hotel, apartment etc. We open the finder websites and find them easily.
- Cheap hostels for the first day:
- a. Hostel Rzeszów: Accommodation in a shared room is approximately 10/15 € per person
- b. Booking.com
- c. hostelworld.com
The location of the hostel, hotel or apartment you will find will depend on the location of your university, but the place you will find should not be too far from the center (Rynek).
Speaking of Rynek, we can start promoting of the city from here. The name Rynek, which you will hear in all cities of Poland and even in small settlements, means the most central place of the city or region. Usually all entertainment venues, cafes, restaurants, etc. located here or near here. This is the case in Rzeszow.
1. Let's get to know the dormitory and the University I will stay:
Let's come to the subject of the University. I did Erasmus at Rzeszów University of Technology and stayed in IKAR dormitory. However, there are many dormitories close to each other in the university campus.
When you come to the city, you will go to the dormitory you are told and sleep or rest according to the time you arrive. Then you can attend the Erasmus orientation meeting organized by the school. You can see something about Polish culture (like Polish local dance) and learn about the school and the city. There you will meet your new Erasmus friends and you can accept gifts. In the gift package, there are usually a few documents containing information about the school and the city, pens, the emblem of the school, the map of the city, clock, sim card, etc. things like that.
On the day after the Erasmus orientation meeting, the school visits Solina Lake, which is located near the city and has a beautiful view and nature. Thanks to this trip, you can experience the historical places (such as the historical salt mine) here.
I must say without forgetting, if you are a student in Rzeszow, you can use all public transport and usually all restaurants with 50% discount.
2. Rzeszow's weather
Rzeszow offers you a cold climate. Summers are generally cool and winters are very cold. If you are going to be here in the summer, you can see people swimming in the Wislok river at 24-25 degrees. Wislok is a river that almost divides the city in half, and a park is accompanied by the river. In this park, you can see people resting, skating, cycling or usually walking with their dogs.
3.Where to See
We can say Rynek Square is the heart of Rzesow. This will be the first place you say when you want to meet your friends.
The Libomirski family palace is the name of the Libomirsky family palace.
Wanda Siemaszkowa Theater It is a charming theater where Polish shows are usually performed.
Revolution monument The monument located very close to the city center.
Fountain located park near Rynek, with light and water shows from time to time.
Skate Park The gigantic beautiful park that accompanies the famous Wislok River.
4. Where to Eat?
There are fast-food places that you can easily find in the city, as well as places where you can find traditional Polish dishes. Food in Polish restaurants usually ranges from 7-10 PLN. My favorite foods are Pierogi and Barszcz soup. I recommend you to try.
Grota (name of restaurant) in downtown at Rynek is my favorite restaurant. You can eat much more delicious food, although a few Zloty is more expensive than other local restaurants.
5. What To Do?
In our free time, you can take a walk, ride a bike in the park accompanying the Wislok river or swim at the artificial beach on the banks of the Wislok river. In the city, dozens of events or concerts are organized daily by students. I recommend using Facebook for these.
Various events are also organized by members of several European volunteer programs in the city. For these, you can visit the INPRO and EKOSKOP pages.
6. Where to go to the party?
We came to the most important issue :). -Where to go for the best parties?
Rzeszow is a really good city in terms of nightlife and parties. You can have fun in many nightclubs or bars in the city. Let's give a few examples.
Klub Pod Palma Nightclub with mostly local music and occasional local games
A very stylish night club in Grand Klub Rynek
Piwarnia Warka Rzeszow Intimate and local bar
Additional information:
The round crossroad in the city is the first overpass built in Poland. Instead of waiting in the light, you can use the overpass and enjoy the view from above the overpass.
