5 ways to present your country
Are you volunteer in European Solidarity Corps and your role is to promote the international mobility and to present your country in the schools? Here are some ideas which you can use it in your project!
What do you want to do when you visit one country? For me, the most important things are to meet the local community, taste the traditional dishes, visit the monuments, enjoy and learn the more as much as possible about their culture! That was my way of thinking when I had to decide in which way i would like to present my country in my ESC project.
Connect your country with your host country!
Of course you have already think about that and maybe you have already speak about your country in the locals but I will propose you one more way! Organize online meetings with your friends, family and with the people in your host country. I think there isn’t one better way to meet and to understand better the different lifestyle than to speak directly with the local community. Of course I know the problems about the language but if both of them they can’t speak English, you can be translator for a few minutes and even if you find that really boring you can organize games like pantomime which no one have to speak! Trust me I did that in the kindergarten and the 5 years old children spoke with my 3 years old nephew! Of course, it was impossible to speak and I thought that it would last only few minutes but one of the kids told me to ask my nephew to show them his games so he start to show in the camera one big box full of bears and cars and the others kids start to show him their games too! You can imagine the mess which they made but I hope that they will remember something about that in the future!
Taste the local plates!
Food is one of the most important pleasures in the life and everyone wants to discover new tastes but what is more tasteful than the meal which you have prepare alone and you got tired of making? I did also that in the kindergarten I was excited with the way the schools in France learn to kids more practical things (we will speak about French education system in the next article) and also how capable are the children if you let them to develop their skills! I saw them to cut the vegetables and I thought that maybe my mum let me to touch knife for first time when I was 14 years old! Of course, one child was wounded but if you explain them without panic it’s not a really bid deal!
Learn the most famous monuments!
If you learn the monuments of one country, you learn also about the history, the culture, the architecture and the lifestyle of the country! That I did with my 5 years old children it was to let them create greek monuments with clay! I let them to be creative and they make me excited one more time and I think that they enjoyed that too!
Dance, Dance, Dance!
Put your country’s music and organize dance lessons! It’s important the kids learn how the people have fun in one other country and how every culture do that in a different way! Let them to show you their traditional dance and I am sure that in the end you will find a common point! The need to enjoy life!
Find cultural element of your country in your host country!
The globalization has greatly effected all the word so is difficult not to find cultural elements from your country in your host country! Search in the museums, in the supermarket, in the daily life , ask them about their daily habits and their system values and I am sure that you will find more that you expected!
