Working from home has been a dream and is now reality, isn't it?
What could happen, if the current situation will go on. I am not going to guess or present my expectations, but I would like to know how youngsters will adapt to this situation. What they think about working from home, what it could change on our behaviour. So probably figuring it out is not so hard, by considering that especially now everybody will just adapt to this uncertain situation having no idea how long they have to sit down in front of the computer, to get the same information, to have uncared appearance and so on. But in any case, I was curious about the opinions of my friends. And I am going to share with the small Social Survey, that I did among 25 of my friends. I know that it can be controversial being not so objective, but it could make a picture, about the advantages and disadvantages by working from home.
Working from home has been a dream and it now reality, isn't it?
I think, if I had asked this question to my friends just 2 months ago, probably they would have answered yes, by considering that it would be easier to work from home and managing your time as you like( having fun with friend, going to the museums and etc).
But now the answer of this question mostly has negative response. So the majority of respondents(45%) who are between 18-25 years old would much rather prefer to work from office. Despite the next 29,2% have agreed to this proposition. Those people who agreed, say that internet platforms and systems are already on a high level, that can improve the quality of education by providing the opportunities to search and get whatever you want. Ok but it could still be interesting for student, who are not so specialized on one thing, and have a different interests. But those who are working get disturbed by your environment and say that it's harder to be controlled if you do something.
On the other hand those who disagree, say that working from home is not so productive, because you spend less time than in the office. So 36 % of respondents say, that they spend on work 3-4 hours on work during the day while being at home. There are a few percent who spend more than 4 hours, only 12 % of respondents are working 5-6 hour in the day. So in this case it's simple, that you have less condition to focus on your work. However!
This case was challenging especially for teachers and student. And despite the fact that most of the schools are passing to online lessons, still there are schools, that haven't even enough resources to insure all of the materials by studying from home. Some of our respondents are students. They appeared their views, by saying that working from home is not productive for education. For example Armenia is not ready for this rapid development to provide a quality education by distance learning. Moreover there is no social contact between students and professors, teachers. So it became a new essential problem for the country.
Students argue, that working from home will not improve education, as parents want to have time to school their children enough and for teachers it's impossible to teach the same material and give feedback to every student while working from home. So in this case e learning system is going to be a big challenge for teachers and student.
But by considering the fact, that now non-formal education is becoming an essential part of the educational system, probably working from home could impact positively Of course distance learning with digital skills is not the same, but it could foster and occur the large wave of non-formal education. So the 50 % of respondents are agreeing with the proposition, that working from home could foster non-formal education, so how it is doing:
There are different opinions on this.for example, one responder arguing, that working and learning from home sets you free, on what non-formal education is about. The other one says, that with all the time in our hands we will be able to get interested in other aspects or things, that we are keen on, rather than just being focused on our everyday life. The other says, that in this way we have more free time to spend it on knowledge than on traffic. So summing up all of the opinions, we can conclude, that somehow being part of the non-formal education, distance learning can improve our skills on non-formal education, but it's not all about it. But this conclusion can also seem individual. Because to understand how it's productive by working from home it's more dependent from who are we spending our time with, and if we are motivated and find time for it, it could be even more developing.
On the other hand. In the productivity of working from home, it is also essential what profession you have. So 44 % of respondents wrote that if the current situation will be continuing they will not have to change their professions. By considering the fact, that major respondents are student, it's easier for them to work and to learn from home. I think the risk can be on high level for those whose work will not be acting by digital working. However.
So that's the topic, that could occur many controversial questions having different arguments, opinions, proposals. Because for all of us working from home could have a different perspective about it's advantages and disadvantages. It's interesting that most of my friends don't want to think about work from home, at the same time while others argue that it has advantages like saving time for getting to the work place, time management, saving money for lunch, reducing pollution, having more time, because you don't need to move around the city, spend more time with family, improving digital skills etc. On the other hand they are arguing that working from home has limited resources. Besides there is always something to do at home, especially if you have children or pets. Or there is no interactions, you are not moving, it can be stressful. Moreover there are more possibilities to get lazy at home don't have your boss in the neighborhood.
So it is interesting that with all of this arguments most of the respondents to the question what could happen if they will have to work only from home the next 3 years, have answered: I don't want to think about it. I don't even want to conclude it positively or negatively.I would much rather prefer to ask you and what you think? Share in below……..
