Tack så mycket

“Tack så mycket” means thank you so much and is one of the first phrases I learned before coming to Sweden because it is always important to be polite and show others that you are grateful. But that is not only why I chose “tack” as the special word of this blog post.

Last Thursday, when I arrived in Sandviken in Sweden I was so happy but also really tired from my 22-hour long train ride. So, when the train entered Gävle, the city next to Sandviken, I did not really know what to expect. Full of excitement I started my journey here in Sweden.

I was picked up by one of my mentors and got introduces to many people at my new work place just a little bit later. They showed me around, answered all my questions, and helped me with everything. My social mentor drove me home, showed me around and we even went out for dinner. Afterwards I had time to arrive and to rest, but the people here also made sure that I knew where to go if I needed something.

For this warm welcome I want to say “tack”!

On the next day I had the chance to go to the center in the afternoon and I was introduced to even more kids, colleagues, and the work in general. Getting to know all these new parts of my ESC was a little overwhelming but seeing such a sincere place with all those opportunities also made me so happy, excited, and grateful for this opportunity.

For that I want to say “tack”!

On Saturday my first roommate arrived and right away we`ve been a great team and got along super well! We went to lunch with Moussa, the “founder” of Rapatac and it was so fascinating to get to know him and what he stands for. In the evening we went to Gävle to explore the city and meet with other volunteers. After a chatty breakfast on Sunday we finally explored Sandviken with our bikes what was really fascinating as well. What a beautiful city so close to the nature!

Monday and Tuesday morning we started with some training to understand the Rapatac-Concept and our purpose in it. We got to learn a lot and afterwards had time to connect with the kids in the center. We talked, played games, and did some courses together. Now we will continue with all that to find our place in the Rapatac-Team that already feels like a family.

And for all that I want to say  “tack”!
