Överraskning
I used the Easter weekend to travel to Germany to surprise my family while they were on vacation. What a great time we all had together!
Today’s Swedish word is överraskning, what means surprise. I chose this phrase because today I want to share what I did during the Easter weekend. I surprised my grandparents by coming to Germany for six days during their Easter vacation. Together my whole family had a lovely week full of quality time, food and sunshine.
For some people it may seem unnecessary to use some of the free days we have for traveling home instead of exploring the country we live in for only this year. But for me, it was the best decision possible. As much as I love traveling, or even living in other countries for longer time periods, it is always great to come back home and spend some time with my loved ones. After this week I`m full of new energy to use the remaining time here in Sweden for traveling, working, and spending time with my new friends here.
But first things first. When I talked to my parents on the phone a few weeks ago and they told me they surprised my grandparents with a week of vacation all together at the Baltic Sea, I saw my opportunity to see my grandparents again. Since they all planned on staying together at a little apartment not that far away from my home here in Sweden I wanted to visit them. We also had a few days free from work because of Easter and I took two extra days off and booked my trip to Germany.
But I wanted to surprise my grandparents, so I didn`t tell anyone except my parents that I`m coming. Once I showed up on Easter Friday everyone was so shocked, but really happy, including me of course. No one expected anything and I loved to see the reaction and how I was able to make my family that happy.
We actually didn`t really do anything special besides enjoying our time together with lots of talking and food. We were outside all the time, grilled almost every day, enjoyed the sun during the day and a bonfire at the water in the evening. It was so lovely and perfect.
First I was not sure about traveling to Germany but wanted to use all my time for traveling through Scandinavia instead. But it was so worth it! I didn`t waste any free days or money, but instead gained so much energy, love, and quality time with my family. And that is also something I learned through my last years of traveling the world. Coming home is always special and spending time with family and friends is the most precious thing to do. You never know how much of it you have left. It helps me recharge and motivates me for upcoming experiences. Of course, everyone is different but for me this balance makes the perfect life!
So, I can highly recommend surprising loved once with an unexpected visit. It`s so fun and exciting and the time together unpayable. I hope all of you had a great Easter weekend as well and are motivated now to either travel the world or visit your loved once. And even if it is not possible, give them a call, those talks are worth more than anything!
