Hejhej!
I`m Lilly from Germany and soon I`ll start my new adventure: working as a volunteer at the Rapatac Activitycenter in Sandviken in Sweden.
“Hej” is the first Swedish word I want to introduce you all to. In Sweden it is the multi-purpose greeting everyone uses. It`s not only for casual conversations but more than that became the national greeting. Isn`t it great to have just one word to use in every kind of situation?
In this first post I just want to tell you all a little bit about me so that everyone understands where I come from and where I will go.
As I said, I`m from Germany and I`m 19. I love all kinds of sports, adventures and outdoor activities, especially a combination of all that, and like to share those moments with others. Nothing is better than inspiring conversations! Well, maybe having those talks while eating together… Because I really looove good food! Otherwise I was part of the school choir and a musical group – music in general is really important to me. Next to all these activities and being a tutor and a gymnastics coach I also enjoy more peaceful hobbies like playing guitar sometimes.
Recently I finished school and I don`t need to tell you, Corona was and still is an exhausting challenge for everyone, especially all these online courses… So, I decided, before continuing studying I needed a year away from all that to work and gain new experiences. I want to learn about cultures and languages, different people and also about myself.
Two years ago, after 10th grade, I already was abroad in Texas for one year and because of that I started volunteering for Experiment e.V., a German exchange organization. Via Experiment I got to know about the ESC and soon there was an open spot for Sweden. It sounded just perfect for me! - Although I have only been to Sweden twice I just love the country and everything that comes with it! - So, I applied for it and was invited to an interview. A few weeks after that I got the news that I can start volunteering in September.
I was and still am so thankful for this opportunity and I can`t wait to meet everyone and work together on different projects!
The next step is packing up my things and saying goodbye to everyone here in Germany. We will see how this goes....
But I guess this is enough information for my first blog entry. There will be an update soon!
For now, I hope you all have an amazing day wherever you are!
