EVS as filled - opportunity - times
Time has once proved to be relative. I guess it means we can see time as we want it.
Things started with a hello! Hello and a smile were the first seeds taken to this space in which I find myself. Maybe “hello” is not universal but smiles are and communication is possible. I received a class of hugs back and a class of eyes staring at me with the eyes of curiosity - who are you and why are you here? Easy answer for me, after all I learned how to pronounce it very well in their language - I’m Joana and I’m here to be a volunteer for the next year. Eyes get even bigger. She came by plane to get here and she speaks different. Where is her family? Is she lost? First work day. First approach to what would be next months. It was a first question that took to a first decisive moment. An old question flashes into my mind, time stops: why?
Reasons why people do EVS are for sure quite different among people. Choosing to use my time doing EVS rather doing other things it’s because do EVS it’s quite more interesting than doing a lot of other things. Before start my EVS project, the EVS action was already about filled time. The possibility of experience different works in different cultural environments as potential to fulfill time since it’s in theory. Then I had this stop-moment where I confronted my theoretical ideas of EVS with the feelings of the moment. What I found is that my EVS is an opportunity time. EVS action is conceived in a way where I can get a lot from it and I have the mission of using it the best I can. It’s up to me how I want to use this opportunity and my time.
I go from 6 months in my EVS now. I’ve thrown my seeds in the autumn and they went through a cold winter season. Thinking my EVS time according to seasons makes sense to me. Spring is already here and my seeds are already flourished. I see them as beautiful and shiny. I have to conclude that time filled them very well.
