Art and cultural life in Budapest

What a beautiful city! When I think about Budapest I feel like an elder woman looking at pictures from her youth. Budapest is one of the most artistic places I have seen in my life. When I talk about art I’m not just contemplating the known art which we are used to seeing in a museum. I’m going further than the specific artistic social areas. You can find art in every corner you walk, you can breathe it because art is part of the atmosphere.

All the time you can find artistic events around the city, also there are many places where you can share with other people your passions or interest. It is such a perfect place where you can express yourself finding the inspiration you need for it. There are many art exhibitions in Budapest. Much more I could never imagined.  Once I visited one of the biggest exhibition I had never seen in my whole life. The local where it took place was a big building close from Széll Kálmán tér, where this type of events are usual. It was open for two weeks and the ticket entrance was for free. Many painters, photographers and sculptors exhibited their artistic works. After three hours, I had just seen half of the exhibition. One of them took my attention, it was a several photography’s which different people appeared in their houses with water around everywhere, like an inundation. People from different cultures and races were flooded by water to the knees, it didn’t matter if they were rich or poor, if they were good or bad people. It was very meaningful to me, showing me what it means equality and justice. That´s art, something you need to figure out what it means, what makes you feel. Nobody can tell you if you are right or wrong, because everyone has their own truth.

Furthermore, a part of the massive scale events, there are many others not so well-known. Once per year there is an art festival around the city. The most attractive initiative was a kind of route visiting curious gallerias around the whole city (both indoor and outdoor). They were small companies, even independent ones. The wonderful bohemian streets full of beauty joined with modest exhibition from different art approach. It was a perfect function.

Budapest has an extensive museum life. One of my favorite is ¨The terror house¨, which is in the most famous avenue called Andrassy. The museum included an audio in more than 8 languages. If you are interested, you have the chance to discover the history of the dictatorships, fascism and communism. The last part of the route take place in the underground floor where you can breathe how the prisoners were tortured. It is an interesting experience, not suitable for sensitive minds. Further, if you want to know more, there is an amazing place at the edge of the Danuve, it is called ¨shoes sculture¨, which it represents the suffering of the Jews when they were water-laced by the fascists. People are used to leave flowers and cadles next to the metal shoes in commemoration of the tragedy. My second recommendation is called ¨Invisible exhibition¨ in the Millenáris park. It is a very special experience. All guides who are working there, they are blind. They give you a short explanation about Morse code and other curiosities. Then, the experience starts ignoring what is going to happen. No more than 8 people enter in a dark house with a guide. You can’t see anything, but you can feel more than ever. Great experience for people who are looking for something different.

However, Budapest has even more to offer, much more. Any kind of event, celebration or interest topic that you are thinking about I’m sure you will find there. Such a live music concerts in many ruin bars like Szimpla, Ankert, Lampas, or Aurora; social-cultural workshops in Szimpla about different subjects; language exchanges in Buda hills, szimpla cafezo, or Ankert; theatre in alternative locals(http://www.budapest.com/city_guide/culture/theaters_concert_halls.en.html); food festivals in Andrassy street ; second-hand shops in Margit street;  or wine special taste in the medieval cattle in Buda side.
