Today's weather report: it looks like a storm!

While we are entering a new year, everything seems the same. Lockdowns are still ongoing, the COVID virus is still claiming lives and the poor get poorer during a strict isolation period, that seems unending! Having to deal with an already difficult situation, as e-ve-ry-one of us is (more or less) affected by the devastating consequences of the continuing pandemic, we have to face a new problem now. The citizens of the USA are at war!

Doubts risen from the 2020 presidential election results, led yesterday evening to the storming of the Capitol. As scenes of violence dominate the media feed worldwide, some talk about a civil war and others about a revolution. The perspectives differ as we move around the political spectrum. However, one thing is for sure: there is no going back.

The 45th USA President, Donald Trump, passed the baton to the Vice President, Mike Pence, to “do the right thing” insofar as not certifying Biden’s election, in a tactic to lower the tensions. Nevertheless, some hours ago the Vice President announced Joe Biden’s win, making him the next president of the United States. Affirming his election might have been the right choice. Yet, this decision added fuel to the fire in Washington.

Less than 24 hours have passed, since the rioters took not only the American Senate but the whole world by surprise. Less than a day, since the demonstrations became violent and we can already count the victims. Four people are dead.

At the same time political figures from all around the world and D. Trump himself, urge for non-violence. Is that enough? We shall take the time to reflect on it. After all, every crisis is deep-rooted. Be that as it may, we can all agree, that the sadness and uncertainty deepens, manifesting in another political crisis. A crisis, that we should all take seriously because it undoubtedly has the potential to spread locally as well as globally, metastasizing faster than the mutated COVID-19.
