The steeplechase has begun :P
I won't lie, it is not sunny and easy all the time. I have been here for a month and sometimes I have to face smaller or bigger difficulties...
The ones I expected...
1. Speaking German. Honestly it is not that hard, but it is still a little overwhelming that everybody is speaking German to me all the time. Now I can have a good enough conversation with one person but 2 or more people is too much and very hard...
2. Get my life started. I mean new SIM card, the official registration, new bank account..etc. Most of them went easier as I expected, because my mentor helped me. For me alone it would have been harder, because no one speaks good English in the bank or in the city hall..
3. Living alone. I come from a family of 5 and a dog. So it is new for me to be alone in the house. Luckily I have flats mates, a nice young couple. They helped me a lot with the small things. So I think I getting better in the hole independent living.
4. Do something in my free time. First of all I don't have as many free time as I thought. Usually I work 7 hours a day and after work I have a million things to do. Also my flats mates invited me to weakly football training and volleyball. My fear to be bored and alone is gone.
The ones I didn't expected...
1.Shopping. I'm not kidding, the first time it was more than hard. I never knew how hard it is to shop in another language... basically I was lost in the dairy section. It took me until the 3rd shopping until I found the natural yogurt. :p I think now I'm getting the hang of it.
2. The new culture. I though there is no difference the Hungarian and the German culture, but there are a lot. The biggest is the mandatory hand shake for everybody. In Hungary girls are not shaking hands so often, just at the first meeting. At home usually I hug and kiss with others not shake hands. So first it was hard now it isn't hard, but it is still weird.
3. Doing stuff after work. Working 7-8 hours in a kindergarten is so so exhausting. When my shift ends early it means I had to start working in the early morning, for example 7:30... so in the afternoon all I wanna do is sleep. If i start not so early I will be free late, like 16:30... So doing anything after work is not the easiest.
Still with all the difficulties I enjoy my EVS so far and I can't believe that I have been here for a month. :)
