Projektbeschreibung
What the hell is Lina doing in London? Here comes my first description of my project I had to write for several institutions we would like to work with in future... Ask whatever you want. :)
About VAP:
Volunteer Action for Peace (VAP) is a UK based charity organisation (No. 1126368) which works towards creating and preserving international peace, justice and human solidarity for people and their communities. Through a range of working projects both in the United Kingdom and around the world, VAP provides volunteers with opportunities to work together with people from around the globe and in partnership with local groups to enhance and empower communities.
About EVS:
European Voluntary Service (EVS) is a European Commission scheme which encourages 18-30 year olds to undertake long term volunteering in Europe. The scheme is funded in order to make volunteering as accessible as possible. The projects are unpaid and, importantly, volunteers do not replace paid workers.
About the volunteers:
Lina-Theresa Lorenzen (23 years old) from Germany, student of Education and Sports.
Glòria Costa (26 years old) from Portugal, Communication Designer.
Both are involved in several volunteer projects and interested in social commitments. This year they applied successfully for an EVS project in the United Kingdom for Volunteer Action for Peace.
About the EVS-Project:
“Creating awareness on the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDG)”
Glória and Lina are based in the UK from the months of July to December 2010 through the European Voluntary Service Programme. They are based in London where they undertake research on both the facts surrounding the MDG and also various methods of non-formal training being practised to reach and teach groups of volunteers or clients.
The EVS volunteers took part in the delivery and evaluation of various activities in the programme of Volunteer Action for Peace by co-ordinating workcamps of international volunteers in different locations in England.
They experimented the application of study sessions and non-formal activities to raise awareness of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
An awareness raising toolkit is now being designed and will be applied to VAP activities from 2011-15 in several institutions like schools, partners and public in general.
About the United Nations Millennium Development Goals:
In the year 2000, the member states of the United Nations (189) adopted the Millennium Declaration. This document contains the MDGs, a set of realistic and achievable targets.
By signing up to these goals, governments of the world have committed themselves to working together towards a better future for us all!
Goals represent human needs and basic rights everyone should be able to enjoy:
- freedom from extreme poverty and hunger
- quality education
- productive and decent employment
- good health and shelter
- right of women to give birth without risking their lives
- a world where environmental sustainability is a priority
- leaders also pledged to forge a wide-ranging global partnership for development to achieve.
