My Special Person - Our Story
I wrote an essay about my flatmates, Andrea and Teresa.
My Special Person-Our Story
Honestly, I got two special people in Graz: Andrea and Teresa.
Many people wanted to persuade me out of living in a “WG” (Wohngemeinschaft), because living with two strangers could be difficult. At the beginning, I also had doubt, but on the second day of my arrival, I could experience how kind and heart warming were my flatmates.
I realised only on my moving day, that I had no blanket and pillow in my room. I decided to go to the downtown and “hunt down” the missing things. Unfortunately, most of the shops were closed on Sunday and I had to spend my first night without blanket and pillow. The heating was on maximum and the blanket was replaced with my bathing wrap, but I was shaking through the whole night. After my chilly night, I was desperate to get the bed-clothes.
My blanket was bought from Facebook, where a guy was selling his, because he was leaving the country. Blanket shopping was done. Only the pillow was left. After many unsuccessful trying, I went home without a pillow. On that afternoon I met my first flatmate, Andrea. I told my story to her and without a word she rushed to her room and went back with her pillow. She told me that I could use hers, until I got another one. Most of the people wouldn’t be touched by a pillow and a blanket, but try out a chilly night without bed-clothes and your opinion will be changed J
Few weeks later I met Teresa. She was cheerful and kind, once we saw each other, I knew we will get along.
Thanks the girls, I was never bored and had a lot of fun during my scholarship. My practise in the hospital was very exhausted and I even forgot my birthday. Not like Teresa and Andrea...
After a long and hard day I went home lately. When I entered the flat I saw Andrea and Teresa standing in the hallway with few friends and they shouted “Happy birthday!” They made a surprise birthday party. I never had a surprise party before and I was really touched. The snow globe got then is still on my desk, and reminds me of the party.
One day, we went to a flashmob, where we had to dance a choreography. None of us could memorise the dance from the internet and in spite of the fact, that our dancing was a complete disaster, we had a great time together.
Teresa and me are huge Game of Thrones fans, and we were excited when we heard that there will be a projection of the next episode. Teresa was waiting for hours in the line under the blazing sun to get tickets for the show. It was wonderful to meet other fans in the projection and I am still very glad that I could take part on the event.
The last day with the girls was very hard. They made a delicious pizza and we sat down in the balcony. We were watching the spectacular sundown and we talked for hours. On the one side I was glad that I had an easygoing afternoon with the girls, but on the other side I was sad. That was my last day in Graz, and my scholarship was finished.
It was a pleasant surprise to live in this shared flat. Without Teresa and Andrea, my scholarship would have been uneventful.
I will always remember how kind and helpful my flatmates were. I couldn’t even wish for better flatmates!
Teresa and Andrea: thank you for everything!
