Moja draga
In your EVS you meet a lot of new and different people and you see a lot of new places, you learn about new cultures and also about yourself, but EVS is more than this. You are not just meeting the people, they become your friends and kind of new family, you are not just seeing the places, you learn how to love them and how to call them your new home. I found here my new home and I found my special person.
The person which inspired me the most is my EVS partner, roommate, close friend, Spanish teacher, travel company, adviser on everything, Game of Thrones fan girl, shopping assistant, “I can tell her everything” and “I don’t want to live without her” person, company for yoga and Zumba and most recently “my draga” (Croatian for darling). Her name is Noa, she is actually from Argentina, but has lived in Spain for the last 9 years and now we are living in Croatia together for six months and we have six more months to go.
She is like a big sister I never had and I am the luckiest person that I met her here in Vukovar. We met the first time when I arrived here. My first thoughts were that her English is really good and I had a good feeling about living with her and till now it was even better than I expected. We are such good friends and we are almost always together. I can't imagine how it would be without her, it's perfect to have someone who understands you without saying much. I don't need to explain how much I miss my home and how hard EVS-life can be at times, because she is going trough the same.
She inspired me in more than one way! She is always positive about things, at least she is trying to be. Now she taught me to do the same. At the beginning, when I was nervous before presentations, she told me that it's good to be nervous, cause it means that you will do something new and that is always a good signal. Since then I am always trying to see the positive side about everything.
Noa is a really good painter and every time when she is creating something new, I also want to paint. In general she is really creative and when there is an idea in her mind, she does not wait to make it happen. Even when this is not working at the first, she doesn't give up. When someone needs help to decorate or create things, usually they ask Noa first, because she always has a solution or a way how to do it. She made our office more beautiful and more personal, designed a coffin for a Halloween event, created a Christmas tree from a palate, invented a dream catcher from old CD, pimped up old shirts with a print technique from crayons and that are just a few examples of her creative ideas.
She also brought really awesome things to my life, first of all herself as a person, second tortilla (Spanish omelet), third dulce de leche from Argentina, which is a sweet caramel cream (like Nutella but much better) and a lot of other candys from Argentina and Spain, which names I can not remember or pronounce.
This might sound really cheese, but I am glad that I met her. It's a beginning of a great friendship!
