Erasmus... Yeah, it was pretty cool man.
"I found myself in Warsaw. When I arrived to Chopin Airport, my buddy, who was holding a big paper written my name with big letters on it, found me. She picked me up from the airport and took me to my dormitory. I left my stuff in my room bla bla bla… Everything was okay at the beginning; it was just normal like it was supposed to be until that time."
My Erasmus story started with an exam I took in my university and I passed!
Yes, I passed as a substitute like always. I was like "niah"! The program you have tried to attend can not be reached at the moment please try again later. However, I got a phone from International Office.
“Hello, Someone gave up to go for Erasmus. Do you wanna go to Poland?”
"Damn yes!”
And I found myself in Warsaw. When I arrived to Chopin Airport, my buddy, who was holding a big paper written my name with big letters on it, found me. She picked me up from the airport and took me to my dormitory. I left my stuff in my room bla bla bla… Everything was okay at the beginning; it was just normal like it was supposed to be until that time.
After I left my stuff in my room, my buddy took me out for dinner. It was nice; I liked my buddy, we were chating and having fun. But when we were going back to my dormitory, she got me to subway station and asked me weather I could go by myself or not. I said "Yes, of course I can". I don’t know why I said so. Then, you know what happened? The answer is so simple:
'I got lost!'It was so nice to get lost in my first day in Poland. Subway Station was so close to my dormitory but I wasn't aware of that at that time. However, I’ve learnt it after lost my way to dormitory. My bag was on my back, whether was getting darker and I was walking around crazily and asking people I saw around me for help. I was telling people the name of the university and asking where it was. It was close to my dormitory like subway and if I could have found my university, I could find my dormitory too. Yet, no one looked like they know where ‘Lazarski’ was! They all had the same expression while saying “I don’t know”. I was getting nervous and questioning how they could not know where Lazarski was? I was loosing my hope to find my way to dormitory and thinking to spend the night around there. I started to feel scared but in that time I saw a young lady who went for a walk with three dogs. I went near and asked her to call cops. She looked to me like a kind young lady and I was right, she couldn’t speak English but totally understood what I asked for and called cops, explained me and she left after then.I started to wait for the cops. After a while, the cops came, I was suprised becacuse, the car was armored car. They got off the car and looked like flying squad. I was looking at them with an open mouth. It shouldn't be a big deal for that country that I was lost but I felt like FBI came to take me. Ask myself being lost is a kind of criminal here. Sure it wasn't. Anyway, they asked me some questions and took my passport. Just at that moment, I learnt something when the cops started laughing at me. My pronounciation was my problem. I kept pronouncing “Lazarski” with L but they said it is not L, it is supposed to be pronounced W. The second suprise for me...
Of course, coming back with cops to the dormitory in my first day took attention of the administer of my dormitory and I had to explain what happened. As soon as I arrived my room I lied on my bed to sleep because I was extremely exhausted.
A few days later, I saw the administer of our dormitory with a friend and came closer to say 'hi'. That friend said "Hi!" to me but the second sentences was the suprising one:
“You are the girl got lost right?”
I was like 'what...?'
“Yeah, it’s me."
I was famous in the university in a way thanks to the administer.
Like most of the Erasmus students, I have made a lot of friends from different cultures and countries and even I have learnt how to play poker and interestingly, I was really good at it. We took a lot of stupid photos with my roommates. However, I would like to mention about that young lady who helped me in my first day. I don’t know who she is or where she is living? But I really appriciate her kindness and am really thankful to her for helping me. Thank you.
