One comedian joked once: What is 'here'? Is it just 'there' without a 't'? Only a one-letter difference in writing, but quite a gulf if we speak about EVS. Hello, I'm Tomek and I'm doing my volunteering project in Berlin!
I found out about EVS a couple of years ago in my hometown of Katowice. I met numerous volunteers who were doing their projects all over Silesia (southern region of Poland). They were all so enthusiastic about it. Some of them have become my closest friends. I used to hang out with them frequently hence I got to know a lot about their projects. Some of them were super satisfied with their voluntary activity, some a bit less, usually because the projects they were doing were not as interesting as they were expecting them to be for various reasons. Nevertheless, everyone was happy being an EVS volunteer, being abroad, discovering a new country and culture, experiencing different perspectives. Everyone was pleased to be THERE. It was even a bit suspicious for me that they all shared the same positive feelings for that. I was curious about it. And because of all this affirmative feedback, I was almost sure that if I go, I'm gonna be as glad as them. I wanted to understand what they meant. I wanted to see the world from the 'outside'. I wanted a different perspective. And here I am. I mean... THERE I am! Hello, Berlin - are you ready for me? :)
