With love from Bonn
When do you realize that life is passing you by very quickly and you are still getting used to life changes?
It was a cold day. Pristina Airport witnessed many greetings, hugs and tears of joy and sorrow. Among these people who were leaving Kosovo was me. I had no particular feelings, neither sadness nor joy. A plan ticket and a visa secured me a trip to Düsseldorf/Germany. It was around midnight when I was continuing my journey to the appartment of a distant acquintance who was offering me support in my early days in Germany. After a dau I left to go to a very nice hostel arranged with a classic taste. A piano that reigned in the middle of a large kitchen would make my first week in Germany even more beautiful and peaceful. The hostel would offer accomodation for two volunteers, me and another girl from Ukraine. The city outside would offer quiet walks and fascination for its beauty. A Corona test made us continue our joined trip for 13 months in the apartment where the first two months we would like together with 2 other volunteers. Staying in a beautiful hostel where, among other things, you find a piano made it more difficult to more to the new apartment. It looked very gloomy, and more hectic and with more noise. The strangest thing was that the apartment was located only one floor above the office where we would work. When you live in an apartment where the main offices of the organization where you will work are located make you realize how important privacy is, the freedom of moving freely without expecting to meet office workers on weekends, and the opportunity to wake up every morning to go to work, and returning home from work. But you get used to everything. I slowly got used to the apartment, if it used to be gloomy, today we have turned it into a place we call home. This house offers us warmth and a sense of security. We live in one of Bonn;s richest and most beautiful heighbourhoods. A few meters away from us is the Botanical Garden of the University of Bonn with the large garden that stretches along Poppelsdorfer Allee. A 20 minute drive along this road brings you to the city center. How fascinating is the view of an old and magnificent cathedral called The Bonn Minster, located in the middle of the city. For a girl who loves classic constructions, Bonn is a great place to live. These first 4 months have been great to me. Discovering a new facade of a building or a detail that I had missed to notice before made me happy. On a beautiful summer day while walking I realized that this is the city where I want to live. It is a beautiful, quiet place, with a lot of friendly people, however even after 4 months I still do not have friends outside the circle of people I have known in SCI and whom you can count on the fingers of one hand. When you do not know many people, the days are a bit lonely, however, not knowing many people brings you closer to yourself. Now I feel like I grew as a person. I'm better at managing my life, to express my ideas and thoughts clearly, as well as to communicate better with people. In these 4 months I have managed to visit new cities and countries, to meet new cultures. Above all in these four months I have managed to visit the depths of my heart, the desires and feelings not experienced, to highlight thoughts and ideas not said before. Four months of life, change, tears of joy and sadness, new people, continuationf of old contacts. My four months in the city of Bonn as a volunteer for SCI Germany.
