What our world has become...
How small things can nevertheless change the world.
Our world has become a gap between the rich and poor. Between the powerful and the “weak”. Those who can change everything and those who cannot change anything. But how can we allow people with power to rule. People with money to rule. When it comes to power and money we change. Greed overtakes our actions and we cannot be the social beings we once were. It is an endless vicious circle where we have to decide for ourselves what we want to be. Poor but modest and caring or rich but greedy and alone.
It is not without reason that there is a saying: The power belongs to those who do not want it.
But how can someone, who does not want the power, thrive for it? That is a paradox in itself. So, at the end the greedy have the power. They hold us in their hands. The look for profit and money, for manipulation and propaganda. But they way too fast forget what the cost is worth. They leave a life behind. They have to become someone else in the public eye. They are alone despite their amount of money.
Both worlds live a grey life. Neither is right and neither is wrong. The only wrong is the system we live in. We are destroying what humankind stands for with every passing minute. Our world is not about progress, advance or profit. It is about sustainability. It is about a sustainable humankind.
What we are doing is not even close to being sustainable. We are destroying us but most of all with it our planet and what we call home.
However, in this world it is more than ever important to see people trying to strike against this system. To see the ones who have hope and to see the ones who try to act against the influence of money by using it for the ones in need.
My organisation in Poland is more sustainable than I ever believed. People always forget so easily what sustainability means. It is a triangle including economy, society and environment. Nothing can exist without taking the other two into consideration.
At first, I searched an ecological project. I searched a project embodying sustainability. I forgot to look up social projects. Too blinded thinking that only ecology is something sustainability is meant for. But when arriving at my project I realised how much this project included sustainability. My work symbolised everything I ever wanted. My organisation is so small they are definitely not profitable. They don´t even want to gain money. Instead they bring their love into this house, so that it is easy to call it home. They change something in this world with their projects, others might be fast to call small. They give the adolescents a different purpose; they show them what solidarity means and they shape them into better people with less stereotypes and prejudices.
What they do for the environment someone might call not much but they fight for our planet with what they have. They divide the trash, they never throw away any food, they try always to go by train or walk.
That are in fact small thing but for an association focusing on the social aspect, it is still enough to say that they thrive for sustainability.
