Solidarity
Solidarity, more than a value from some, a need for everyone.
I was taught solidarity was walking in another people’s shoes.
As I kid I believed this meant to help those in need.
Nowadays I know, solidarity is the language of love.
Empathy is her twin, and both are relatives with generosity.
It is often described as giving without hoping to receive.
However, what about the reason why we are giving and who are we helping?
We do not tend to think each one of us, somehow, needs acceptance and support.
People think about solidarity when disasters occur,
when terrible circumstances happen, and nations get united.
Nevertheless, every time we aspire for peace to appear,
we need to speak through solidarity.
Helping someone healing his pain,
is not less important than sharing joy when success comes,
or feeling anger against another being unfairly treated.
Being united with each other at every moment is key to bring harmony.
No matter who we are or where we come from,
when we realize we share the magnificent gift of being vulnerable humans, only in that moment, solidarity comes.
That is how the strongest communities are built.
Egoism and hate once vanished, lead the way for love to come and solidarity dictates if it will remain.
If I were to give my own definition I would say,
solidarity is simply looking through the eyes of another, feeling the love of a mother, willing to help as a father, and providing selfless care as best friend.
