Solidarity - the lesson we should learn from our history!
Sad pages of world's history tell us a lot about war's years. But what was keeping nations together?
Solidarity is not just a word, it is a great feeling that goes from the bottom of the man's heart!
After the first minutes of thinking about given theme, I came to unexpected conclusion that illustrates my meaning of Solidarity. My example is based on Solidarity during the World War II.
We all have different background, nationalities, education systems in our home countries, etc. However none could deny the fact those period of time was black pages in the book of our world's history. Too cruel, too bloody, too never-to-be-forgotten.
There were a lot of factors those years conducting success of Allies of World War II, one of them - Solidarity. At the beginning counting on solidarity of 26 countries the coalition grew up to almost 55 nations to 1945.
In spite of each of the country’s leaders was worried by national interests, everyone understood the interdependence of the fate of the countries they led, in the upcoming gigantic battle with the countries of the aggressive bloc, the need to find acceptable solutions, to help each other in this battle, despite any differences these countries had, were above all. Solidarity, as union of common goals and interests, helped them to stop aggressors finally.
Thereby history gave us the example, how destructive (Aggressive bloc - destroy) on the one hand and at some points constructive (Allies of World War II - protect) on the other hand can be Solidarity.
Thus my second definition of Solidarity would be - a form of sociality/communication, that includes union of common goals, dedication and sacrifice; something that connects people, motivates them to act in a certain way. There are different feelings leading individuals to Solidarity. They are: support, empathy, but also could be fear and anxiety.
Fortunately, I’ve experienced Solidarity in my own way and were able to share it with other people. There was a publication in the city’s newspaper that local library was going to be reconstructed into a shop. Several activists created a public account where everyone was able to join and sign a petition against it. By the way, we organized and invited all partial citizens to a protest. Finally, thanks media and citizens involvement we won!
Nowadays being in solidarity all together on hot issues (e.g. SDGs, refugees) we can run the world to better future or maybe even save it from disaster!
