Solidarity in everyday life
A short poem
After grabbing your hand I was able to escape this uncomfortable situation.
She was protesting against the unfair treatment of the man.
He felt a sense of community and belonging when he joined the student association.
They shared tears and joy together while talking about their upbringing.
We were mourning silently at the burial of our unknown neighbor.
He bought a bun and gave it to the homeless man.
She provided a sleeping place for the young refugee.
I smiled at you and suddenly you were able to make a step.
When I think about these incidents, I understand
That solidarity has a lot of faces.
A youngster reaches out to an elderly’s hand
Kind acts happen in a lot of places.
They share belongings, emotions and their story,
Witness a breeze of acceptance and empathy.
For a better world solidarity is mandatory
It is an instinct and part of our identity.
I might not agree with a lot of your life choices,
But we still share moments of closeness.
If you face hate and angry voices,
I will be by your side, even if it seems hopeless.
Sometimes we can’t understand each other,
Even though we are technically the same.
We experience happiness and moments of shudder,
So let’s cooperate, try and not blame or shame.
We can be solidary in so many moments,
Look around; you have probably experienced it already.
A glance, a smile, a word, monetary components,
Let the word “solidarity” become a part of your personal dictionary.
