My Special Person – Our Story

Everyone is influenced or affected by certain events or people that greatly change their life. In my case there have been two special persons that have affected me during my participation as an EVS volunteer in Croatia, Ivana and Ayra, volunteers as well. During those two months that we were living, working, and sharing many things together I realized, without any doubt that our lives were going to be strongly connected, because since then we started to create ¨Our Story¨. This Story is very special because it does not matter if we do not see each other every day, or if we are not living in the same country, the important aspect is that any border can separate us.

I am Ericka, originally from Bolivia and with Spanish citizenship. I feel so blessed and I just can say, EVS opportunities found me since last summer. I had the opportunity of being a volunteer in Croatia, and right now I am volunteering in Sweden, but this is not about me; this is about the two special persons I met last summer.

Ivana, one of them comes from Serbia and my other dear person Ayra is originally from Brazil with a Portuguese citizenship. As you can imagine both of them have their own personality, their own way of thinking and of course their own behaviour but we have one thing in common ¨Our Story¨. Since the beginning the tree of us became friends easily, so that means we had the great opportunity of learning so many things from each of us. We shared many things and now I want to point out the most important aspects that I have learnt from both of them; with Ayra I learnt that strength does not come from us, it comes from someone or something that is much more bigger than us, we are so little in this tiny world, sometimes we thing we know everything but dear people, we are just discovering a piece of this enormous Universe, so because of that we must be as much humble as we can and we just have to live this life giving the best of us and being good with each other. Ivana taught me how to enjoy every single moment in life, because we can be as happy as we want wherever and whenever, and I have also learnt that we are capable of anything, so we are capable of achieving our goals, it is up to us. Each person has their own potential and we can be the best in anything if we work on it, there is no time to be afraid, time goes by and we just live once.

So, my two special persons were destined to meet me. I am sure they learnt something from me as well. An ancient Chinese belief says ¨An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but will never break ¨. I strongly believe it and that is why we met last summer in Zagreb. We are still in contact, Ivana visited me recently in Stockholm and we are looking forward to meet Ayra somewhere soon, I am pretty sure we will, although we do not know in which country yet.
