My Restoration
Remarkable people do remarkable things. Thanks to EVS!
When I was in university,I was dreaming of travelling Europe or finding someway to go for a project. I heard about European Voluntary Service and apply for it in september of 2011. I was very excited because this would be my first abroad experience. Then I was accepted for a short-term(21 days) EVS project produced in France-Toulouse. The aim of the project was restorating a historical pigeon house. I thought I would be easy and enjoyable to be part of it. The association mediated to have free flight tickets. The people worked in that association gave me the address of the town and the description of the project. As I learned I would stay in a tent in a village and restorate a historical building in there, I was worried and It was seemed to me very difficult to reach and stay there on my own. I got to airport and flied to Toulouse. During the flight, I wished to have enjoyable friends and to not to be cold while sleeping in tent. I reached to place easily and met people in a house. They prepared a "Bienvenue Party" for volunteers. We were 13 people from different countries. Two of my friends were Turkish as me. Let me introduce you my special person who is "Nazlı". Of course af first I didn't know she would be the one who would save my life during the project.I will mention about her. We reached to the camping area and left our baggages. All vounteers were organised for camping life led by a camp leader. The work started at 7.00 a.m. and finished at 3.00 p.m. Firstly It was difficult to me to wake up that much early and to work like a man. On the other side It was enjoyable. We helped each other and breaking the stones as yelling and singing. We had a camp schedule included activities after work. In 11th day of the project, after work we went to a practice area of local football team to have some fun. We formed the teams and started to play a football match. I should have felt like Messi because I ran after ball all the time. I did a dangerous movement and broke by foot. It was nightmare for me because the project had finished for me on that day. From start to the end all people helped me but Nazlı was special. She always supported me and did all the things for me. She was two people anymore. The last day of the project local channel of the town made documentary about project. They wrote our names on the building. It is great honor for me to leave a good mark on people leaving there. Still I am meeting people from there. Thanks to Europe projects!
