It's showtime
- Finally the Opera started; things got serious -
This week I spent most of my evenings in the Opera. It all worked out very well, the Opera was and still is a success. The Norwegians liked it a lot and there were quite many people, some even showed up several times. But the way they dressed – interesting. There was a broad range of styles, from casual to formal, and included combinations that have abstract qualities. I have never seen three different kinds of patterns and all materials - from cotton, silk and mixed materials to synthetics – together with clashing colors before. And we haven’t talked about the shoes yet… But to each his own. As long as they feel confident it is fine with me, I was just surprised to see those walking pieces of art and I really wanted to share this experience with you :D
After the premiere on Wednesday we all went for a little premiere party to the hotel in Nordfjordeid. A cold buffet, dinner and desert were served, but I skipped the desert and most of the dinner because I was already feeling sick from the food. I did not eat too much, the food just upset my stomach. And I was not the only one, Artur and Barbara did not feel well either. Maybe we are just not used to the food yet… It was a pity, but not to change. Even then it was a nice evening and I enjoyed being there with all those people from the Opera :)
In the morning I went to work just normal. So I have been to the Småbarnstreff again, but nobody showed up and during the week we decided to quit this project if it is going on like this until the end of October. It makes no sense to sit there for hours, waiting for people to show up…
In the canteen I helped preparing pizza and I even got my favorite one from Virginia, one of the kitchen assistants, when I told her that it is pizza ‘Hawaii’. It was really nice of her and really good because it was homemade and not taken out of the carton like I saw it many times in Norway. Almost everything is already finished and you just put it into the oven or heat it up. I guess this resumes from the high taxes on fresh food, you just cannot afford buying the different ingredients. Or it is just easier for the Norwegians, I mean, sure it is, but it definitely lacks in quality then…
In the German class we talked about the 3rd of October in Germany and what is going on the 17th of May in Norway, when they have their national holiday. It sounds quite different from what I am used to, with a lot of celebrations and stuff going on, but I will tell you then after I experienced it myself :)
The Norwegian class this week was okay, at least not as bad as last week, but actually I am really happy that it will not take place next week because of school holidays. I just feel stuck in that course and it is really frustrating for me that I cannot move on faster, even if I really want to. Unfortunately there is no possibility to participate in another Norwegian class and I have to go there. I guess I just have to make the best of it…
At least some people in the Opera teach me a little bit Norwegian every time we see each other, it is really good and much more fun than the class. If they can feel that you are interested in learning their language and really try to speak Norwegian, they become very talkative and helpful. Even if it is more Norwenglish ;)
By the way: this week it didn’t rain at all and we had the most beautiful weather you can imagine. Sunny and almost no clouds – but it is bloody cold. The temperature drops to sub-zero every day and sometimes I already struggled to go down the hill my house is built on because of the icy roads, especially in the mornings. I am sure I will have nice sliding experiences in the near future… :D
See you,
Alisa
