The End of one adventure and the beginning of a new one

It's actually over. My voluntary service ended last Thursday. A year has passed and I am now back in Germany. I can hardly believe how quickly the time in Hungary has passed.

I can still remember my arrival in Hungary as if it were yesterday. Back then I was very excited and frankly I could hardly imagine staying there for a whole year. A year is a very long time, I thought. And now I'm back in Germany. Crazy how time flies.

During my voluntary service in Hungary, I not only found a second home in the small village called Totvazsony. I also learned a lot for myself. Above all, my self-confidence was strengthened enormously. I mean. Just going abroad like this without knowing the language or any human soul. That includes a bit of courage.
I think I can be proud of that. Anyone who has participated in such a voluntary service can be proud of this. There is always talk of breaking out of familiar structures and your own comfort zone. But we ESC volunteers. We actually did it. Let us be proud of ourselves.

I don't want to say much about my personal experiences. That would probably go beyond the scope. I just want to thank every single person I got to know during my voluntary service. For example, the other volunteers from other projects. Each of you has given me so much confidence. Of course we also had a lot of fun. We emptied one or two bottles of Palinka. Probably a few too many. It was a great time with you. I hope we'll see each other again soon.

Finally, I would like to thank three people in particular. Firstly, my boss Szilard, who gave me a lot of free rein. More often and to a greater extent than in other projects.
And on the other hand, my two mentors Kati and Janneke. You taught me so much, I learned a lot from you and our colleagues. But above all, with “Janka Tanya” you showed me that nothing is really impossible and that you should always stay true to your dreams, no matter how unlikely they may seem.

A new adventure

After my adventure in Hungary ended, I went straight to the next night train. Because a day later a seminar for an "international youth volunteer service" (IJFD) was to take place in Oberhausen. For me it is going to New Orleans, USA in September. There my life as a volunteer goes into the next round.
