The embodiment of generosity
About the kindest married couple I have ever known.
Here is this little town of Goerlitz, which I have known for many-many years. A lovely couple lives here, and it happened that they have become with my grandparents at the end of the 80’s. I have got the chance to spend my voluntary year near Gorlitz in a village, and I could get to know this wonderful couple a little better. Once a week, I spend the night at their place, full board, for nothing. They did not forget my birthday, and of course a lovely gift was given to me (a beautiful notebook with butterflies on the cover, it is one of my inspirations ever since). The same happened before Christmas too. It was a Friday morning, we were eating breakfast. The wife asked me about what I would like to get for Christmas from my parents. I told her that I would like to collect parlor games because I really like how families here in Germany spend the evening playing together. The next day I would travel home, and they took us to the station. There were two other volunteers too and all the three of us have got a small wrapped Christmas gift from them. I never expected that, I could not wait to open it. So I have got a travel-sized version of the game Qwikle, which I usually play with her when I stay the night there. It is always a pleasure to spend time with them because they are always attentive, never let you down. They are the ones my grandmother always talks about like this: “This couple is a pair of real angels. I cannot imagine how they can always make time for everything and everyone. I have never known someone like them”. Their attitude is particularly inspiring: though they haven’t had the easiest past, they have always been happy, positive and helpful to anyone ever in need. I am proud to know them. They show me every time we meet that we have humility and generosity on the Earth. They show me how to make time for my beloved ones and that a small gift of attention can make a heart melt not for weeks but for years, even for a life. This is what I would like to see in most people: never complain, be happy for what you’ve got. Appreciate your life, be generous. Share your goods and be there when you’re needed. Let’s learn and grow!
