"Solidarity" & Solidarity
A small rant about solidarity in correlation to modern society in all its shallowness.
Yeah, I get it. Solidarity is one of those fancy words with deep meaning. One of those many abused words one chooses in order to make a point in a shallow discussion about the philosophy of life. It's a tool to convince the listener of my intellectual level. An emotional word often exploited as a shield to disguise the true intentions of one's plan.
And this is why I don't want your "Solidarity".
We are all painfully aware of how much true solidarity is needed today and how it is lacking at this very moment. At least we pretend to be. Take a look at our society. Paradoxically though it consists of humans, you won't find humanity. It's superficial. An act. Want me to give you an example of what is not solidarity?
Let's talk about all those broken and broke millennials, currently struggling to survive in a world which seems to be monochrome from their point of view. All the colors they've seen as children left the picture of their worlds like hope and dreams their hearts.
Followed by the kids of Gen Z, raised by technology instead of humans. Their parents are busy trying to fit career and family under the same hat. For reputation's sake. Because being a career mom/dad looks good in their CV and because they want to live for themselves, not for their kids. Being all alone, forced to grow up in an unhealthy speed, those kids started to look up to those, who were still trying to figure out how life works; the millennials. When talking about Gen Z, we are talking about young kids, basically fresh out of the egg, beginning to romanticize the struggles of a slightly older generation, turning their pain into trends and aesthetics. Without comprehending what they are doing. Because no one is there to direct or even advise them. Gradually, a whole generation finds itself in a huge identity crisis. Simultaneously, the parents' generation is preoccupied making a profit of the short-living trends, sometimes even capitalizing on them to push forward a political agenda.
Now, exactly those two generations are expected to save the planet.
"Stop global warming, save Antarctica, make love, not war and completely change the human language, behavior and culture in order to give everyone their 5 minutes of fame and recognition. Everyone needs to be included." Because this is what they believe respect is. This is how they think, our world works. Obviously, that's not how it works. But they don't know. Nobody ever told them. Moreover, when their concept of the world has been shattered, they drown even deeper in the sea of mental health issues. Voila, the perfect recipe for a generation suicide.
All of that while those who raised and screwed them over, are pointing their fingers at them. Calling them weak and names. Comparing their achievements on a scale that doesn't fit. Condemning them based on a law, so old, even dinosaurs would recognize it. Completely disregarding the circumstances of our modern world. Indeed, I am talking to you; baby boomers and all those people that are crying for solidarity the moment they are in a critical spot but won't do the same for others.
I do not want your "solidarity" because it looks pleasant in your CV.
I do not want your "solidarity" because it promotes your political agenda.
I do not want your "solidarity" because it earns you prestige on social media.
I simply do not want your fake "solidarity" as long as it harbors selfish intentions.
Because this is not what solidarity is. It's nothing more than a cheap copy, doomed to break as soon as you rely on it.
In order to understand the idea of real solidarity and how to put it in usage, you need to be real.
I want the solidarity that comes from your heart. Because it means there is still hope in mankind. It means we are willing to be brutally honest with ourselves and everyone around us. It means people are unafraid to look the devil straight in the eyes and not waver in fear. To accept made mistakes and acknowledge the reality we're living in. The act of solidarity is not only about showing empathy and standing together during dark times. It's about wanting to change for the better.
Rise as the savior of the broken.
Let them call you the Judas of their generation.
Because we will accept you as the prophet of ours and follow your lead.
