Solidarity, also known as the power of humanity
When I start thinking about the 7 billion people I live with on this planet I always think about how we could make a difference. How could we make a place where everybody is equal and nobody is lonely and bullied? Everything depends on what we think about when we hear the word solidarity.
Solidarity is a word that has as many meanings as many people are alive today. We’re all different so it’s alright that we don’t have common opinions in certain topics. However, it’s possible that this point of view may change. Everything, everytime changes like our taste, mood and our attitude for our job/studies. I’d say that life wouldn’t be that much exciting if we had the same pace of life life for many years. As I think back for my past 18 years I believe that my personality was always influenced on a large scale by the surroundings and the people I’ve stayed connected with on a daily basis. As everyone else I’ve also had many ups and downs already and I’ve learnt a lot about what it means to be a human. A few years ago I used to be really selfish and jelaous like I thought „why don’t I have those shoes which that girl has?” and „why don’t I have that beautiful red and black shirt that I’ve always been dreaming about?” and so on. Finally I got those pieces of clothing from my parents. Was I happy? Yes, I was. Or at least, I thought I was. I wasn’t happy because of the new items I got but because of that I wasn’t ostracized for my old – fashioned clothes and my worn trainers. I felt like I’m not an outsider anymore and finally I belong to somewhere. As time went by, soonly I found myself in secondary school. I totally looked like a normal 14-year-old teenager who can easily fade into the crowd. Fortunately I met some really amazing people in secondary school and I’m sure that if I appeared tomorrow in my worn clothes that I used to wear in school, they would still love me with all their heart. But what am I willing to tell you with this story and how is it connected with solidarity?
With this story I’d like to tell you that a few years ago I had a very big and serious compulsion to conformity. That time I didn’t understand what the problem with me is. If someone doesn’t have beautiful and fashionable clothes is it right equal that this person doesn’t worth anything at all and it isn’t worth to care about them? I felt really lonely and now I know it all was because of my surroundings didn’t show any sign of sympathy and solidarity. I felt like I don’t worth a penny like I’m useless and scorned since I didn’t look like a fashion dictator. As soon as I changed my clothes I felt like a typical teenager girl who doesn’t have any special characteristics but at least I looked like a „normal human being”. Is it just the appearance that solidarity depends on? I’m totally aware that the first impression is really important which is mainly depends on a person’s appearance but I think we should leave these stereotypes and only judge someone after we know their personality too. Taking everything into account I do think that appearance is such an essential thing but I don’t consider it more important than the basic human values like frankness, politeness, helpfulness, generosity and solidarity.
By the time my personality has changed in many ways. The jelaous and sad little girl that I used to be became a more mature woman who sees the world from other perspectives. Now I say thank for every little good things that happen to me and I try to notice the positive side of everything since the only person I have to suit is me myself. I feel like I’m a valuable person of the society and I have new plans ahead of me. I’ve learnt a lot from my mistakes and I realised that the most important things in life are health, love and helping each other in trouble. To my mind it’s one of the most beautiful things in life to give hands for people who have huge problems and they’ll surely thank your help with a smile on their faces. We’re all the same but we’re all different. Every single person has an unique complexion, an unique shape and an unique personality. However there is one thing which is the same in us: it’s that we are all human beings. Making up our minds about what kind of clothes we want to wear, what kind of lifestyle we want to lead (e.g. vegetarian) are all individual decisions. Nobody was born to be perfect but everybody can be perfect in their own way. What we feel ourselves comfortable in and what we’re keen on doing are the most important matters in life because these are the things that make us better people who can regard a human as a human.
In conlusion solidarity means me the mutual respect between two people. There are 7 billion of us in this planet and we should not bully and judge someone whether we know them or we don’t. This word has many meanings and it can be connected with many emotions as well so with fear and doubt in my mind but still hopefully I believe that one day there will be a world where people will not only know the right meaning of solidarity but they will act humanely too.
Lastly here’s a short poem I wrote about solidarity:
Someone said me once
On a loney day
Live your life as you will but
In every circumstances
Don't forget about giving hands since
A billion and more people
Reling on each other
In the belief of
The power of humanity like
You are one of the those who do care about solidarity
