Hiking tour Alhambra
Last Saturday, I went on a hiking tour with 35 other people from Purchena and some other villages nearby. The hiking trip was only the first of six trips, which will take place throughout the following five months, each in another area, with a different difficulty levels (but all between 10 km and 20 km long) and following a part of Andalusian history. The topic of this first part was “The other Alhambra. Granada”, with the main goal to offer as many spectacular views on the big fortress as possible. The bus from Purchena to Granada left at 8.00h, with a short stop on the way for a cup of “café con leche” and a croissant. The weather was fine, nippy 4°C at the beginning, but sunny and getting warmer with the time. There could barely have been a better weekend to be chosen for the couple of hours drive along the Sierra Nevada, only now verily covered by snow. Our guide led us all the way around the Alhambra, showing it from all angles and perspectives, close and far away, directly beneath the high walls and high above from the mountains. We went inside as well, contemplating the part open for visitors without payment. Being taught about the history of Granada and its last Moorish king Abén Humeya, the group roaming through the small white alleys of the city. At 13.00h, we enjoyed a lunch break with sandwiches, crisps and fruit and came back to Purchena much later than expected, at 18.00h. On Sunday, there was another little event for Renata and me to join: the celebration of the literature club for kids in a fairy tale museum in Serón (a village about 20 minutes from here). At 10.00h, we took the bus together with Manolo and some of the kids. After a small cup of coffee during waiting time, the other kids arrived with their parents and started presenting role plays of the books they had been reading. The kids were sent on a paper chase and when they came back we were invited to serve ourselves from a huge buffet with chorizo, salami, jamón, crisps and nuts. At 15.00h we were back in wee Purchena.
