Summer breaks do not mean break from activities, and engaging children in fun activities. One of the best initiatives is to organize holidays for children where they enjoy the days. A workcamp offers the change volunteers to participate in these initiatives.

A well-known workcamp from SCI-Germany “Sun+Wind=Power?!” took place in this Power Park from 8nd to 22nd of August. Near the Danish border, on the Flensburg Fjord, is the most northern city in Germany the workcamp was located.

“Living and working together, learning from each other” - the main motto of such international voluntary projects as workcamps. That is actually what is going on indeed the workcamps, reaching the goals to promote peace, disarmament, and international understanding through volunteering.

Greetings to all of you! My name is Lili. I am a long-term volunteer at SCI-Germany that celebrates 100 years this year. I would like to dedicate this report to this wonderful organisation where I work as a Placement Officer. I will start from the very beginning and tell you about the opportunities offered here. Soon the world of voluntary movement will celebrate a big date. The century is almost gone since the first international workcamp took place. Let’s have an overview how it was.

Being an ESC volunteer part of my project is to lead workcamps. This summer the workcamp took place near Frankfurt in the Kelkheim town. The town is famouse for its Zauberberg (a big building, the name came from the novel of Thomas Mann) and amazing view to Frankfurt.

Short-term Voluntary Service is about bringing people together to make a big difference to individuals, to groups and to the wider community, to get in touch with new cultures and mentalities, brake the stereotypes and prejudices.The contribution of each single person helps to reach successful results in every workcamp. Many participants can find new friends, gain new experience in different fields, improve their language skills, brake stereotypes about other nations and get their first experience abroad.
