Two Christmases and lots of food!
Food has always been inseparable part of any holiday and celebration in every culture uniting people around one table and sharing food, emotions and love.
Holidays are over and each of us probably has a lot to remember about the celebrations!
For me it was the first time in my life that I celebrated New Year and Christmas abroad without my family. The experience was unique and I want to share with you some of it.
Firstly, I want to note that in Armenia we celebrate the New Year on January 1st, as here in Germany, but Armenian Christmas is on January 6th not December 24th. Why is it so? You can read this article for more details.
So basically this year I had two Christmases- one German and one Armenian.
In Armenia holidays are always associated with lots of food and I was surprised that it’s the same in Germany too. I have eaten a lot these days; every day one of the colleagues at Solaris jugend- und umweltwerkstätten, Chemnitz, was bringing over some yummies. Food has always been inseparable part of any holiday and celebration in every culture uniting people around one table and sharing food, emotions and love.
For Weihnachtsparty with the colleagues we had traditional German dish- Gans mit klößen und rotkohl and of course Glühwein.
The inseparable part of German Christmas tables is also Stollen (cake-like fruit bread made with yeast, water and flour, and usually with zest added to the dough). I have had a lot of it, but no picture haha :)
For the occasion of holidays I also baked traditional Armenian pastry called "gata", which we eat on holidays as well as daily.
Hope you also enjoyed your holidays and had lots of delicacies!
All the best to you all for the new year!
