The sister I never had
It is a story about how doing EVS can you give you the chance to meet one of the most special persons in your life.
I want to tell you a story about one girl called Bego who was born in Spain in one city called Valencia. She loved living near the sea and watching everyday how beautiful could everything be beautiful under the sun.
She had a dream: To be a teacher, but no a simple one. She wanted to show every children how to get the best of themselves because it is in the difference where the amazing things of our life are. Unfortunately, not every teacher wants this. Some of them don't care about the happiness of children. They only want to make children be clever and get excellent marks as if they were robots.
Bego had learning difficulties when she was in kindergarten so she had to heard how her "lovely" teacher told everybody how stupid she was and how she wouldn't get all her goals in the future. The little child was really sad but thanks to another teacher and her family, at last, she got it. Though she had to have more work experience and learn another languages before getting a job as a teacher. One of the choices she took was travelling abroad although she was afraid to be unsuccessful.
In adittion, she felt that if she went away her place, people could forget her. She was very insecure with herself because of all the bad words she heard about herself when she was at kindergarten.
One day something happened that turned upside down her life. Her little cousin had cancer and doctors gave him few hope for life. In this moment, she understood that when you really want something you should do it. Sometimes tomorrow is too late.
Bego looked for some projects abroad, and who knows why, Sweden chose her to do a volunteering service during one year. She was really afraid to feel alone but it didn't suppose to be a problem because she had to share this experience with another volunteers from different countries such as Germany, Serbia and Czech Republic. They turned on a small family but three of them were living together and she was living far away of them. The young girl felt homesich and alone during the first days. She wanted to hang out with them but how?. The Czech girl was living in a big flat only for her, so she thought Bego and she could share it during all the year. It was very kind from her and that' s how the two girls became almost sisters.
As you could imagine, one of this two girls is me, Bego. The other is the person who gave me all the purpose I need to be in this tiny village of Sweden. She is Kamila. The first day I met her, I was really excited because she would be the only girl to share with this project, and she wanted to have a special friendship with her. She was a bit shy and I thought she was also worried like me. So everything would be new for us.
Step by step, we were talking about our things and sharing flat made us be more closed every day. During the second month, we had a little misunderstanding and made me feel afraid to lose her and she felt the same. Nonetheless, the good thing was that we didn't need to talk so much about it. Sometimes it was enough to look at our eyes to understand each other. And, it was in this moment when I noticed she was real with me and loyal. That's why I think I could always be supported for her.
It doesn't matter the time we meet, I feel inside me she will be one of the most important persons in my life for countless reasons. For helping me without asking her, for making me laugh every day even if we were living in the coldest and darkest end of the world during the long Swedish winter. Just I give thanks to Kamila for being herself.
You could think I have fallen in love with her. It's true. I don't mean the kind of love like couples have. It is one love without deadliness because of it doesn't depend on feeling attraction, having romantic dates or being jeaulous or afraid to be cheated on your boyfriend or girlfriend. It is the kind of love you could have with the members of your family.
Our connection makes me feel I have met the sister I never had. Beyond a doubt, it's the most beatiful memory I could get during my experience living the EVS.
