Me, my project and my future

About me

Hello everyone! I’m Cassandre, I’m from France and I’m 21 years old. I’m doing a voluntary service in Würzburg, in Germany until August 2019. I have a degree in langages (English, German, Russian), but I wanted to do a Gap Year to discover new things and maybe change my ideas about my future. For me, it was important to come to Germany to improve my lingustic skills and practice the langage but also to live one year abroad, discovering new things, new opportunities and meet new people. Doing a year abroad is a good experience for life and work: thinking about my future and adding another experience on my CV, a work and life experience that could hopefully help me for my Master candidature! My last reason to come in Germany was to become more independent and more confident about myself and my future.

My project

My city, Caen and my departement in France, Calvados, are twinned with Würzburg and so, the Unterfranken region, in Bavaria, in South Germany. Every year and since now 21 years, one person from Unterfranken and one from Calvados, both aged between 18 and 25 years old, are going to the twinned region for a year for the European Solidarity Corps. Their tasks are to represent their native region in their guest region, promote their native langage by going to schools to present it, as well as their cultures. It’s a way to improve a foreign langage, to have a job experience and to discover the work world of another country.

My expectations

• to improve my German: I’m in Germany since two months and I already have the feeling that I already improved it so I’m not worrying anymore about it!
   
• meeting new people
   
• to enjoy working in Germany, with german people and about my country
   
• to enjoy my year and having the time to discover the region but also other countries such as Czech republic, Austria, the Netherlands or Poland

Why a blog?

During my introduction seminar, we had a presentation of Youth Reporter and I found great the idea of writing a blog and eventually reports about my year in Germany. I already had the idea when I was in France, to share my experience and give ideas to young Europeans who also want to live a year abroad. So here I am, I hope you, reader, will enjoy my article.
