Community Learning

It makes a real lazy person, not to be involved in activity here. 

So we are a group of volunteers, spread all over several Circus Tents, doing Circus Pedagogy for Kids. one thing is for sure, our volunteer meeting, scheduled every Monday evening, after that, it is very colorful and ever-changing. There are always some events, demos, missions, coming up, where one can check-in. No pressure, but still, there is a kind of pressure - in a good way - to raise our hand for one more activity. 

What we had so far?

We organized an exhibition - inner circle kind since the instruction was: create messages for future volunteers, about our ESK experience. (I'll shoot some photos later on and add it here, cause man, there are some amazingly done artworks!) 

But before that, we've been to XR camp (Extinction Rebellion) where we held little activities for people to help connect with themselves, and with their environment. We also had Cocoa ceremony and meditation as closure. 

And before all that, we went out several times for Public Space Animation, once with homeless people, once total random, just with people walking on the streets. It was very inspiring and fun. We carried giant bubble equipment, and face paint kit and of course tons of circus props (clubs, poi, hula hoop, slackline, unicycle and so on). It was free to try out for sure, and we developed games with the props on the run.

We also had Club Actions - that is a new era. We were asked to visit this club, with our props and fun vibes*, and basically see what happens. The aim is: social interaction. Us had the role as facilitators or initiators of the process. We loved it, people loved it, everyone wins. (I mean cause we had a great time in the meantime and in return, we received the free tickets to enter, and also some drinks from the backstage bar. Sounds cool init?)

* Fun Vibes: so this worth a whole article to detail, but there is a reason behind that this club calls Circus People to play- since there is a nice stereotype which connects circus with reality, and it is that circus is atypical, it is inventive, and it works beyond borders. (Borders like cultural, but also as mental - since circus is always about pushing the limits. And we all know where this leads: learning. "Life begins where comfort zone ends.")

And still, there are some smaller things I won't detail it here. My intention was to show, that besides our volunteer call (working with children) there are lots of other kind of activity, where we can grow in our experience. And this is cool. 

It would be hard to describe my growth in my volunteer call yet, since the language barriers.. so now I am mostly doing observation on the classes, and whenever I can, I jump in. 

I already could manage to do the warm-up sometimes, and leading some games, or with help- co-leading them. 

I am looking forward to continuing!
