You are cold and you do not know what to do in winter. But take a look, it is Christmas markets time!

At Christmas it is better not leave the house, if you do not want to be frozen bones and nose. Besides the few hours of sunlight does not encourage you to go for a walk on the street. But if you live in Germany, you may have noticed that suddenly in the middle of your city there are many wooden houses and the streets are filled with beautiful decorative lights. Welcome to the Christmas markets!
Jobs handicrafts, handmade sweets, German sausages! I love it!
Among all the Christmas markets that there are now in Germany, I will talk about a very special one, one of the largest, oldest and beautiful in Europe, the Nuremberg Christmas market.
When you arrive the first time to Nuremberg, you find a city with its old style medieval, which is almost completely surrounded by a wall. At the top of the mountain, adjacent to the northwest of the wall, you find the mighty castle to protect the city. Crossing the city from east to west is the river Pegnitz.
Now imagine the streets, in itself is charming right? Adding the charm of Christmas, plus the charm of a Christmas market... I am no mathematical but the formula can only result in our first reason to go to this city in December, Charming.
2.The Christkind.
In Protestant countries the person who brings gifts on Christmas is the Chriskind, although less and less because Santa Claus Coke's. The Nürnberg Christkind is a woman, and is selected every two years to a girl at least 16 years to represent it. The chosen opens the Christmas market in the city with a special event and participate in more events throughout the season of Advent. It is a close election, as many girls want that position.
3.The ornaments.
In this market you will find a lot of Christmas decorations. Balls for the tree handmade figures of all kinds, carousels advent candles, lights in the shape of stars, etc. A variety to satisfy every fan of trees loaded with balls, lights and colors. Also one of the most curious ornaments is the Prune Men made from dried prunes and figs, they are fun, there are them of all kinds and can be a funny or different gift for friends and family.
4.The Glühwein.
Oh! The Glühwein! That wine has to be on every Christmas market. Of course, for some people it may be strange drink warm wine, but when you are cold, a glass of hot wine, heats up the frozen souls. So after four p.m. the talks are more funny! In Nuremberg there are many kinds of Glühwein, with amaretto, with Scottish whiskey, with Spanish anise, even one through fire to make it even sweeter, the Feuerzangenbowle. Wrap up yourself so you do not have to buy too Glühwein.
5.The cups.
To drink Glühwein must take a decent cup and in this market every year make a special edition, sometimes beautiful, sometimes less. Therefore if you are a fan of collections you can get a good set of cups of Nuremberg visiting the market every year, and paying their Pfand, of course.
6.The sister cities.
Nuremberg has a few sister cities from various continents. Each one has a small stand in a section dedicated to them. Here we can find a place in Cordoba (Spain) with Andalusian products such as olives, good flamenco music or coffee "carajillo". Another from Bar (Montenegro) with liquors, one from Glasgow whiskey, skirts and berets, another from San Carlos (Nicaragua) with coffee, others from: Kavala (Greece), Kalkuda (Sri Lanka), Atlanta (USA), etc. Is a must-see.
7.The sweets.
Sweets, sweets and more sweets everywhere! The only time of year there are more sweets than sausages per square meter! There are many types, must begin with the most typical from the city, the Lebkuchen, original ginger bread that is on the list from things you have to eat in Nuremberg, and is also the fruit bread, the Plätzchen, sweets in the shape of cookie Monster, etc. Besides there is a place with chocolate tools, tools! Who has never dreamed of eating a good wrench made of good black chocolate, mmm!
I hope that you decide to visit the city on these special dates, certainly the occasion requires. Finally I leave you with a short video of the Christmas market from last year.
