Scholar Bullying
Bullying is a problem that affects our kids and young so I wanted to clarify what this topic includes
There is no doubt that bullying is a real problem that affects nowadays society, a topic that we continuously hear about in news, but do we know exactly what does bullying means?
Scholar Bullying is divided into two categories:
- Direct harassment. It is the most common form among children. Fights and physical attacks.
- Indirect harassment. It is usually more common among girls and in general from pre-adolescent.
It is characterized by pretending social isolation. This isolation is achieved through various techniques that include spreading rumours, refusing social contact with the victim, threatening friends, criticizing the person alluding to his/her physical features, social group, way of dressing, religion, race, disability, etc. among others.
Physical bullying
It includes all bodily action. It is the most common form of bullying. In recent years, physical bullying has been mixed with alarming frequency, with various forms of sexual abuse. It is identified because it usually leaves body traces.
Direct. Hitting, pushing, kicking, forms of confinement, spitting
Indirect. Damage to belongings, steal, break, hide any kind of object
Verbal Bullying
It includes non-corporeal actions with the purpose of discriminating, spreading gossip, carrying out actions of exclusion, insulting and repeated jokes. Children and young people are much more sensitive than adults to these issues. The opinion of the parents constitutes an essential part among the factors that will help to form the identity and the personality. It is more used by women as they get closer to adolescence.
Direct. Set nicknames, insult, threaten, make fun, laugh, among others.
Indirect. Generate racial or sexist rumours, bad comments, speak badly.
Psychological bullying
It is the most difficult to detect since they are forms of aggression, threats or exclusion that are carried out behind the back of anyone who can notice the situation, so the aggressor can remain anonymous. It is frequently used to underline, reinforce or highlight actions carried out previously and keep the threat latent.
They increase the force of the abuse, since the aggressor exhibits greater power by showing that he is capable of threatening even though an authority figure is “present”.
In the victim, the feeling of defencelessness and vulnerability increases, because he perceives this audacity as a threat that sooner or later will materialize in a more forceful way. They can consist of a look, an obscene signal, an unpleasant face, a gesture, among others. Also, within this there is a type of bullying known as racist bullying that occurs when the abuse refers to the origins of the victim.
Sexual bullying
It is when a harassment, inducement or sexual abuse occurs. It occurs when the abuse refers to intimate parts of the victim's body.
It includes Homophobic Bullying that occurs when the abuse refers to the sexual orientation of the victim or when an attempt is made to justify it for reasons of homosexuality, real or imaginary.
Social bullying
It tries to isolate the young person from the rest of the group, when the other is ignored, isolated and excluded.
Direct. Exclude, not let the victim participate in activities, remove them from the group.
Indirect. Ignore, treat as an object, as if it does not exist or see that it is not there.
Now that we know in what consists bullying we have to take efficient measures to abolish this cruelty.
